What to Wear for Your Summer Senior Photos Session ☀️🎓

Summer senior sessions are chef’s kiss — golden light, glowy skin, and that carefree “school’s almost over” energy. But let’s be real… dressing for photos in the Atlanta summer heat can feel tricky.

You want outfits that look amazing, feel comfortable, and don’t leave you melting 10 minutes in. I got you. Here’s your go-to guide on what to wear for looking confident, stylish, and totally YOU at your summer senior photos session.

1️⃣ Choose Lightweight, Breathable Fabrics

This is rule number one for summer portraits sessions.

Look for:

  • Cotton
  • Linen
  • Flowy dresses or skirts
  • Lightweight denim
  • Breathable button-downs

Avoid thick, clingy, or heavy fabrics that trap heat and show sweat easily. If you’re comfortable, you’ll look relaxed — and relaxed always photographs better!

2️⃣ Say Yes to Color (Summer Is the Season for It!)

Summer light loves color. It makes your photos pop against all the green trees and golden sun.

Great color choices:

  • Soft pastels (lavender, baby blue, blush)
  • Brights (coral, turquoise, sunny yellow)
  • Crisp white (always a favorite!)
  • Earthy tones (sage green, terracotta)

Try to avoid super neon shades — they can reflect onto your skin. And if you’re unsure, bring options! We can always help you decide on location.

3️⃣ Flowy = Magic on Camera

Movement brings photos to life.

Think:

  • Maxi or midi dresses
  • Skirts with movement
  • Wide-leg pants
  • Loose button-downs you can toss over a tank

A little breeze + a flowy outfit = effortless, dreamy photos.

4️⃣ Keep Patterns Simple

Patterns can be cute, but subtle is key.

✔ Small florals
✔ Soft stripes
✔ Minimal textures

🚫 Avoid:

  • Large logos
  • Super busy prints
  • Tiny tight patterns (they can look strange on camera)

If you love a bold piece, pair it with something neutral to balance the look.

5️⃣ Dress It Up… and Keep One Casual Look

I always recommend at least 2–3 outfits:

1 Dressy Look
Something you’d wear to a graduation party or nice dinner. This gives you those timeless, frame-on-the-wall portraits.

1 Casual Look
Jeans, a cute top, sneakers, or sandals. This feels relaxed, natural, and very “you.”

Optional Fun Look
Sports jersey, band tee, hobby-related outfit, or something trendy you’re loving right now. These photos will feel extra personal years from now.

6️⃣ Shoes Matter More Than You Think

Your shoes will show in photos.

Good options:

  • Neutral sandals
  • Clean white sneakers
  • Booties
  • Simple heels or wedges

Bring comfy shoes to walk between spots, especially during summer sessions when we’re moving around parks or city locations.

7️⃣ Don’t Forget the Details

The little things elevate your whole look:

  • Simple jewelry (gold layers always photograph beautifully)
  • Hair accessories like clips or headbands
  • A light jacket, flannel, or cardigan for variety
  • Fresh nails (neutral or soft colors are perfect)

Guys — a watch, layered shirt, or rolled sleeves instantly adds style without trying too hard.

8️⃣ Be Yourself Above All

Trends are fun. Pinterest is inspiring. But the best outfit? The one that feels like you.

If you never wear dresses, don’t force it. If you love bold fashion, bring it. Senior photos are about capturing who you are right now — your personality matters more than any trend.

Bonus Tip for Summer Sessions

We usually shoot about 2 hours before sunset when the light is soft and golden (and a little less hot). Bring water, maybe a small towel, and trust that we’ll take breaks when needed. Your comfort is always part of the plan.
