Choose your corporate headshot photographer | Atlanta Photographer

Once you have decided to update your or your corporate team’s headshot – check my blog post « 6 reasons why you need professional headshots » -, it is time to decide who will be your photographer!

A headshot should create a powerful first impression on people who see it and offer a glimpse into your personality. In order to do so, you need to choose a photographer who makes you feel confident and comfortable, and helps you showcase your qualities.

Here is a list of things to look for and questions to ask your headshot photographer before booking:

1. Photographer Headshot Portfolio

Does the photographer has experience with corporate headshot for large groups?

Do you like what you see on the website and in the portfolio?

Do you like the editing style? What about the poses?

Do the headshots in the portfolio reflect skills in posing and coaching so that everyone looks their best and most relaxed?

2. Session Organization

This one is mainly for big corporate teams. When you’re putting together a full day of headshots, one of the hardest part is to schedule time slots, find and prepare the room, get people ready on time…

Ask your photographer if they can help you organize the day so each person is photographed quickly and easily. What is the plan for sick people? And for the day when you will add new staff?

What is the overall process from inquiry to photo delivery?

3. Personality

Talk to your headshot photographer before booking. This will give you a taste of their personality.

Make sure they’re friendly, professional, and can put people at ease, because it will show in the photos. If you feel like you and the photographer have a good connection, that is a good sign that your headshots will turn out as expected. It will help get a great experience and feel at ease on the session’s day.

4 Communication

Before making a decision make sure the photographer includes a pre-booking consultation. Be honest and communicate exactly what you are looking for with your photographer. It is key for getting the headshots you need.

It is also the time to share all your questions and concerns , such as how to prepare, what to wear… Your photographer should listen to you and offer advices to help you bring your vision to life.

For example, I send all my headshots clients a questionnaire and a headshot session guide. It helps me understand their expectations and field of activity. It also gives them all the advices needed to prepare for their session.

5. Price

Make sure you know exactly what you’re paying for. Check that all the options in the package are spelled out ahead of time, and ask how the pricing will change if you add or remove people from the shoot.

Ask the photographer what is included and what is not included i.e. how many images you will get, the selection and editing process, the delivery time… or any other factors that may influence the final price.

Getting a new headshot done is an investment, but it counts as a marketing and advertising expense for work. So remember to include it when submitting for your next tax return.
